Architectural probabilism emerged as a tradeoff, providing an interface to bridge the gap between the precedent approaches and accentuate the role of architecture in influencing human behavior. Both approaches have proved inadequate in explaining human-environment relationships. While the determinists argue that the built environment is the sole determinant of human behavior, the possibilists accentuate the role of culture in shaping human attitudes. Two prevailing and debatable approaches in this regard have dominated the architectural field in the past decades: determinism and possibilism. The article deals with a controversial issue, namely the effect of architecture and built environment on human behavior.
